Our agency is new to the block but our company directors are not. SMRT POP UPS is a partnership of Sofia Fortin and Selene Vakharia. Together we have over 20 years experience providing stakeholder engagement, event planning, and digital and print marketing strategies to our clients. Our team provides research, strategy, creative direction, design, social media and website design expertise. We have an in-depth knowledge of the Yukon and its communities and have helped organizations large and small to engage audiences with powerful stories.

Her expertise in online audience research, audience targeting and promotion are unparalleled. As a team, we are constantly looking for new ways to leverage the conversational power of social media to engage audiences the issues that matter.

Sofia, a born and raised Yukoner, has worked for over a decade in the Yukon helping communications and organizations tell their stories and engage audiences. She cut her teeth on her first major project in 2008 when she advised Yukon Government on communications and engagement for the controversial Dawson Wastewater Treatment Plant. Six years later she undertook another large-scale controversial engagement project - Next Generation Hydro. Both required the design and writing of many communications materials including websites, print materials and the organization of multiple engagement events and technical workshops. Each required a large focus on First Nations partnerships and balancing the needs of multiple, often opposing stakeholders. Sofia is an adept project manager, strategist and facilitator who thrives in deadline-driven, multi-stakeholder environments. Over the years she has completed work for Yukon Development Corporation, Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre, Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce, Yukon College, Whitehorse Aboriginal Women’s Circle and many more.

Selene has lived in the Yukon for the past four years and brings to the team her expertise in social media, public relations, event management and audience research. For over a decade, she has worked with a diverse client roster, where she has developed and implemented strategies that have achieved results regardless of the business size or budget. She is passionate about using the power of data and analytics combined with nimble marketing strategies on a variety of digital and traditional platforms. She is adept at creating and communicating simple summaries from complicated data and research. Her clients have included Tourism Yukon, Wilderness Tourism Association of Yukon, Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Nakai Theatre, Victoria Faulkner’s Women’s Centre, Manulife Financial, City of Whitehorse, and many more.
