Countdown to 150: New Year’s Eve Event

The City of Whitehorse received funding from Canada 150 to host a Countdown to New Year’s Eve event in Whitehorse, Yukon on December 31, 2016. SMRT POP UPS in partnership with Pixie Ingram Consulting produced the event.

The challenge of the event was to create entertaining programming all evening long in Yukon winter temperatures and conditions.

To celebrate the start of Canada’s 150th year, SMRT POP UPS in collaboration with Pixie Ingram Consulting produced the biggest New Year’s Eve event the City of Whitehorse has ever had.

For this notable year, Shipyards Park was transformed into a winter wonderland with all-night skating, food vendors, and live performances in both official languages.

SMRT POP UPS and Pixie Ingram Consulting programmed the event with local musical and dance groups and a nationally acclaimed headliner, Classified.

Indoor and outdoor warming areas were provided throughout the park to keep attendees warm, a heated and sheltered stage kept performers safe and out of winds, cold, and possible snow. We worked with a security firm to keep attendees safe.

The event brought together 5,000 attendees for an amazing all-ages evening celebration of music, food, and fun.
